Heat load calculation
Total heat load consists of heat transferred from outside the cabinet and heat released inside the control unit. For cooler selection, provide the cabinet dimensions, internal heat sources, desired internal temperature and maximum expected ambient temperature.
Unit conversions listed in the source catalogue
- 1 BTU/h = 0.293 watt
- 1 BTU/h = 0.000393 hp
- 1 watt = 3.415 BTU/h
- 1 hp = 2544 BTU/h
- 1 watt = 0.00134 hp
- 1 ft² = 0.0929 m²

Typical fan capacities
- 4-inch fan: 100 CFM (2832 LPM)
- 6-inch fan: 220 CFM (6230 LPM)
- 8-inch fan: 340 CFM (9628 LPM)
- 10-inch fan: 550 CFM (15574 LPM)
Identify the heat generated inside the enclosure. Calculate the surface area exposed to ambient air, the difference between the target internal and maximum external temperature, and the external heat transfer. Add internal and external heat loads. If power consumption is unknown, provide measured temperatures together with the number and size of existing fans. Contact Erkim to confirm the calculation and cooler selection for your cabinet.
